LOVE CHILD
Daniel Jenkins and Robert Stanton, both successful Broadway actors, expertly play at least twelve characters between them in this bare-bones but hilarious farce. The plot involves a neurotic actor named Joel who’s putting on a modern-day adaptation of a Euripides comedy in a stinky sausage factory in Red Hook. When one of the actors in the play-within-a-play steals Joel’s sleeping pills and passes out, Joel’s crazy mother, who’s also his agent, and his crazy aunt, who, it turns out, is really his mother, emerge from the audience to rescue the show. Once onstage, the family of over-the-top thespians can’t separate their own stories from the script, and astounding truths emerge.
